ECCOSORB® MCS/SS6M used in US Army HSTAMIDS:

Mine DetectorA company specializing in the development of innovative products for the health and safety industries looked to Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products for assistance in eliminating EMI in a high-tech handheld mine detector.

HSTAMIDS: Handheld Standoff Mine Detection System is a dual sensor landmine detector developed by the US Army. These detectors utilize ground penetration radar (GPR) and metal detection (MD) technology to locate metallic and nonmetallic antitank and antipersonnel mines.

Application engineers at Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products worked closely with the RF engineers developing the ground penetration radar (GPR) to eliminate the RF interference being emitted by an L-band transmitter.

Emerson & Cuming Microwave Products recommended a flexible, magnetically loaded, electrically non-conductive silicone absorber. ECCOSORB® MCS/SS6M standard at .040” thick was chosen. A Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) designated by the SS6M suffix was selected for ease of attachment.
