ECCOSORB® GDS is a thin, flexible, magnetically loaded, high-loss silicone rubber material that is electrically non-conductive. When placed within a cavity, ECCOSORB® GDS has proven to be very effective at dampening resonances due to its high permittivity and permeability. It is particularly effective in the 6-35 GHz range. It can be easily cut with a knife or die and can be held in place with an optional Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA).
Other applications include preventing the flow of microwave currents on a metal surface. Thus, it can be applied to antenna elements, microwave dishes, the inner or outer surfaces of waveguides for isolation, attenuation or modification of radiation patterns. It will also greatly reduce the reflectivity of metal objects due to surface current flow. As such, it can be applied to side or even rear surfaces of certain objects and will cause a significant reduction in “head on” reflectivity or back scattering.
ECCOSORB® GDS is not intended for use as an absorber to reduce Reflections from a surface that are based on the geometric properties of a wave (no surface phenomenon). May be thought of as associated with a ray, which arrives I at a surface at a given angle and bounces forward at the same angle (as a ball would bounce or as light would reflect from a mirror). In contrast, with non-specular reflection, a ray striking a surface at an angle reflects off over a wide range of angles with a wide variety of rays.
specular reflections of metal objects. However, when used in a specular manner, it will reduce metal plate reflectivity by a few dB. ECCOSORB® GDS is completely impervious to moisture and can be subjected to outdoor environments and high altitudes and is also recommended for space applications due to its low out-gassing properties.
